The new SpaceScan SS 02 IO-Link series is a high performance self-contained, measuring light curtain series from Telco which generates a dense infrared multi-beam light grid and offers a sensing range of 10 metres with high excess gain. The series is available in a wide array of lengths, ranging from 300 mm up to 1980 mm (optionally available up to length of 2460 mm upon request), making it suitable for almost any application. The series is also available with cUL approval for Class II, Division 2, Groups F and G Hazardous Locations (E488233).
The light curtains are housed in sturdy and robust black anodised, aluminium 33 x 36 mm (w x d) profiles , which are fully sealed for an IP 67 rating and designed to withstand severe vibrations and shock. The design incorporates a T-slot for flexible and universal mounting, with the use of T mounting fixtures, which are included.
The entire range is offered in three different versions which are differentiated by the spacing of the channels (diodes) and is available with spacing increments of 20 mm, 10 mm and 5 mm. The smallest spacing increment of 5 mm, ensures a very dense grid of light beams and the highest resolution in the active area, for detection of the smallest parts. The SS 02 offers 12 to 384 channels, depending on the chosen model which varies by length and channel spacing.
The high gain performance of the system, together with its durable mechanical construction, ensures that the light curtains will operate reliably and uncompromisingly in applications with severe contamination and harsh environments, including water spray, heavy fog, mist, dust, dirt and industrial/process contamination. The optical design of the SpaceScan series guarantees easy alignment of the light curtain pair.
This series from Telco is a highly advanced light curtain system that supports a wide range geometrical analysis functions which may be used for measurement, positioning and monitoring functions. This version of the SS 02 light curtain is equipped with an IO-Link communication interface, which allows parameters and settings to be programmed and monitored. The selectable and adjustable settings include:
Scan mode [cross or parallel beams], operation mode [inverted / not inverted], gain control/mode [automatic or manual adjustable gain], hysteresis, blanking function [programmable or teach-in] and smoothing pre-filtering function and on/off time delay.
The product line offers a 2-wire analogue output (4-20 mA and 0-10 V) and up to four individual digital outputs (transistor NPN or PNP chosen by type) which can each be individually configured with a selection of up to 17 different measurement/output functions and conditions. A digital input is included to switch between two different output readings on the analogue output. The diverse and broad range of programmable parameters and conditions ensures a solution for even the most demanding and challenging applications.
The SS 02 series operates with a 18-30 V dc supply voltage. The light curtains are fitted with a 50 cm pigtail with a moulded M12 plug for quick-disconnect assembly. The SST transmitter is fitted with a 5-pin M12 plug and the SSR receiver with a 12 pin M12 plug.
The light curtains can also be monitored via integral LED indicators mounted in the front face-lens of the units. The system includes a power-on, output and system/signal status indicator.
The transmitter and receiver pair are electrically synchronised to guarantee optimal performance and reliability in all operating conditions – and ensuring high switching frequency without compromising high power and sensing range. Furthermore, the system has a high light immunity of 100k lux promising problem-free operation even with direct exposure to extraneous light.
